NSS 09
Edexcel have released allocations for the coming NSS cycle.
EV's now have their centre details and should be contacting Quality Nominees soon.
Once an EV is allocated a centre it is normal to retain that allocation for 4 years so you may already be familiar with your EV...
NSS requirements/ changes.
Level 3 programmes are nested ie: if you are running more than one Music programme at level 3 your EV will only look at one of them.
Similarly your EV will only look at one Music Tech programme.
Level 2 programmes are not nested with level 3 so if you are running a BTEC first as well as a national your EV will sample from both.
A typical example:
Centre running ND and NA Music. ND and NC Music Tech. FD and FC Music.
EV will sample ND Music. ND MT and FC Music.
Sample size, as before:
ND and NC - learner work from 2 first year year and 2 second year units.
4 pieces of work from each unit - total 16 pieces of work.
NA/ FC/FD - learner work from 1 unit. Total 4 pieces of work.

Internal verification:
Assignment briefs must have been IV'd prior to use.
At least 50% of the work submitted for NSS must have been IV'd

Good Luck!

Update - We now have resource packs available for most level 3 units (immediate delivery)
ALL level 2 units will have packs available by the end of November...

BTEC Music info
In response to requests for clarification with regard to Unit content, the following is taken from the Edexcel CGA (Centre Guide to Assessment) which is available from the Edexcel Website.

Unit content

The unit content provides the programme of learning for the successful completion of the learning outcomes. Evidence to meet the grading criteria will include relevant areas of the unit content as described in the assessment section of the unit. This is informed by the underpinning knowledge and understanding requirements of the related National Occupational Standards (NOS) where these apply.
Each learning outcome has prescribed key phrases or concepts listed in italics followed by the range of related topics. Further detailed lists provide an indicative range to support the specific topic item. It is not expected that all of the unit content is assessed in all units.
Hope this is useful
